Soprano and visual artist Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir and pianist Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, will present a unique programme of some of their favorite songs from around the world, including some of Iceland’s most beloved art- and folksongs. The program features music by various composers, for example Monteverdi, Purcell, Debussy, Jórunn Viðar, Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir, and Errollyn Wallen.

Visitors are invited to sit on stage with the performers, looking out into the impressive and cavernous Eldborg hall. Normally seeting around 1600 people, this event has a limited amount of tickets due to this unique opportunity.

The concert will last approximately one hour and will be performed without an intermission.


Soprano Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir received the Icelandic Music Award for Singer of the Year in the classical and contemporary music category in 2021. In 2019, she made her debut at the Staatsoper Berlin in the role of Snow White in Wolfgang Mitterer's opera "Schneewittchen" and received unanimous praise from critics for her portrayal of the angel in Olivier Messiaen's opera "St. François d'Assise" at Theater Basel in the autumn of 2020. Álfheiður Erla became an ensemble soloist at Theater Basel in the autumn of 2021, where she has performed various roles, including Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto", Drusilla in Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea", the soprano solo in Bach's "St. Matthew Passion", and Philip Glass's "Einstein on the Beach". Álfheiður Erla also works as a photographer and often combines visual arts and music in her projects. She was recently chosen as one of Echo's Rising Stars for 2025-26 and will perform at numerous concerts in major European concert halls in 2025-26.

After studying violin and viola in Iceland and conducting in Berlin, Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason was appointed music director of the Icelandic Opera in 2018. Subsequently he held the post of conductor in residence with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He is a coveted accompanist and chamber musician and has appeared as a pianist on stages such as Wiener Konzerthaus, Berliner Philharmonie and Wigmore Hall in London. For the past years, he has been orchestral conductor with Bjork on her tours throughout the world.

Bjarni is currently conductor at the Malmö Opera and will take over as artistic director for the BIT20 ensemble in Bergen in 2025.
