Nominated for the best event at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2023, soprano and visual artist Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir and pianist Kunal Lahiry, will present a unique programme of some of their favorite songs from around the world, including some of Iceland’s most beloved art- and folksongs.

Visitors are invited to sit on stage with the performers, looking out into the impressive and cavernous Eldborg hall. Normally seeting around 1600 people, this event has a limited amount of tickets due to this unique opportunity.

The program features music by various composers, for example Monteverdi, Purcell, Debussy, Jórunn Viðar, Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir, and Errollyn Wallen.

The concert will last approximately one hour and will be performed without an intermission.

Álfheiður Erla and Kunal Lahiry met during their studies at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin and have worked on innovative projects together ever since. Their show, Apparition, which intertwined music, dance, and visual arts in Eldborg Hall at Harpa, was nominated for Event of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2023. They also received a grant from Musikfonds for the concert film Homescapes, which they produced in Berlin in 2020. Additionally, they were selected to participate in SongStudio 2019, organized by soprano Renée Fleming, and performed at Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Room in New York.

Soprano Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir received the Icelandic Music Award for Singer of the Year in the classical and contemporary music category in 2021. In 2019, she made her debut at the Staatsoper Berlin in the role of Snow White in Wolfgang Mitterer's opera "Schneewittchen" and received unanimous praise from critics for her portrayal of the angel in Olivier Messiaen's opera "St. François d'Assise" at Theater Basel in the autumn of 2020. Álfheiður Erla became an ensemble soloist at Theater Basel in the autumn of 2021, where she has performed various roles, including Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto", Drusilla in Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea", the soprano solo in Bach's "St. Matthew Passion", and Philip Glass's "Einstein on the Beach". Álfheiður Erla also works as a photographer and often combines visual arts and music in her projects. She was recently chosen as one of Echo's Rising Stars for 2025-26 and will perform at numerous concerts in major European concert halls in 2025-26.

American-Indian pianist Kunal Lahiry is the first pianist specializing in art song to become a BBC New Generation Artist and is also a recipient of the Carl Bechstein Scholarship in 2021. He has performed widely in recent years, including at Wigmore Hall, Kennedy Center, Pierre Boulez Saal, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Musée d'Orsay, Ludwigsburg Festival, Life Victoria de Los Angeles Festival, and the Ravinia Festival Steans Music Institute. Kunal is an Equilibrium Young Artist, Samling Artist, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Artist, and Britten Pears Young Artist.
